Cover Reveal: The Romeo Club by Rebekah L. Purdy

The Romeo Club
by Rebekah L Purdy
Release Date: 03/25/14
YA CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE

Summary from Goodreads:
THE ROMEO CLUB is Hitch meets The Secret of My Success.

What happens when you agree to help your brother “de-nerdify” so he can catch the attention of the popular Chloe Anders, and to everyone's surprise, he actually lands her?

And what if his equally geeky friends come running with girl wish lists of their own, offering money for your services?

Well, if you’re sixteen-year-old, Delyla Denson, then you start The Romeo Club. A secret club where she’ll teach these guys how talk, act, and be cool around girls. It’s a win-win situation.

She’ll get enough money for the awesome prom dress she’s had her eye on, and the guys, well, they’ll get dates and maybe learn how to do something other than beat the next level on their video games.

There are only two problems with this plan. One, her quarterback/track star boyfriend is getting jealous of how much time she’s spending away from him and decides to try and figure out what’s going on. And two, Delyla is kind of falling for her brother’s BFF, Trey who she’s been hanging out with a lot more. And who thanks to her help, has caught the attention of the beautiful, perfect, and popular, Portia Rickard. With Portia and Trey heating up, Delyla realizes that maybe the person she’s meant to be with has been in front of her all this time.

But falling for Trey means she’ll have to take drastic measures including sabotage, with a capital S.

About the Author
Rebekah Purdy grew up in Michigan, where she spent many late nights armed with a good book and a flashlight. When not hiding at her computer and getting lost in her stories, she enjoys reading, singing, soccer, swimming, football, camping, playing video games and hanging out with her kids. She loves the unexplainable like Bigfoot, the Dogman, and the Loch Ness Monster (lots of good story material)! She admits to still having all the books she bought throughout her childhood and teen years, and she may or may not have an obsession with anything chocolate…

Book Blitz: That One Summer by C.J. Duggan

Organized by Xpresso Book Tours, here's the Book Blitz for That One Summer by C.J. Duggan.

That One Summer by C.J. Duggan
(Summer #3)
Publication date: December 17th 2013
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
Loving Chris Henderson would be wrong. Diabolically disastrous. I mean, what is there about him to love? He’s moody, bossy, brooding, a control freak, and that’s on a good day … but there was one achingly obvious fact that haunted my every thought, every minute of every day …

He sure could kiss.

As the countdown to the new millennium begins, there is one thing everyone agrees on: no one wants to be in Onslow for New Year’s Eve.

So that can only mean one thing: road trip!

No longer the mousey, invisible, shy girl from years ago, Tammy Maskala is finally making up for all those lost summers. A new year with new friends, which astoundingly includes the bossy boy behind the bar, Chris Henderson.

She likes her new friends (at least most of them), so why does she secretly feel so out of place?

After chickening out on the trip, a last-minute change of heart sees Tammy racing to the Onslow Hotel, fearing she’s missed her chance for a ride. The last thing she expected to meet was a less-than-happy Onslow Boy leaning against his black panel van.

Now the countdown begins to reach the others at Point Shank before the party is over and the new year has begun. Alone in a car with only the infuriating Chris Henderson, Tammy can’t help but feel this is a disastrous start to what could have been a great adventure. But when the awkward road trip takes an unexpected turn, Tammy soon discovers that the way her traitorous heart feels about Chris is the biggest disaster of all.

Fogged up windows, moonlight swimming, bad karaoke and unearthed secrets; after this one summer nothing will ever be the same again.

2. ‘Onslow’ is a mythical lakeside town.
3. ‘The Boys of Summer’ was originally to be a standalone novel, but morphed into a three book series.
4. C.J’s first job was working in a pub.
5. Book One ‘The Boys of Summer’ was written in 2011 during NaNo month (National Novel Writing Month) in November.

8. C.J stumbled into publishing by accident, having formed a friendship with fellow Author Ednah Walters who encouraged her to ‘own what you do’ and publish her writing.
9. C.J is a fast writer often finishing a novel anywhere from a one to three month period before edits and rewrites begin.
10. The Summer Series will feature three novels with a spinoff planned in the future.

At sixteen, Macey has better things to think about than saving lives and submitting to any rule other than her parents’. As a budding artist, she has her whole life ahead of her, at least until she faces her own testing.

5 Things I Wish I Knew About Being an Author I Didn’t Know Before
guest post by Stephanie Erickson

5. Everyone and their mother has an opinion
Everyone, and I do mean everyone, has an opinion about your life, your writing, your approach to publishing, your cover art, your book layout, your venue, your promotions, and…well, you get the idea.  Learn to filter out the ones who are just being mean because they are jealous, and the ones who are being constructive.  That is quite possibly your most valuable tool.

4. Read!
There seems to be a stark division on this subject.  Either people feel writers should devour books like air, or they think you shouldn’t read at all for fear of copying someone else’s idea.  Personally, I think the latter is complete hogwash.  If you don’t read, how are you supposed to learn and grow as a respectable writer?  You can not only get ideas and see how other people are writing, but you can learn grammar, vocabulary, and evolve your style by reading.  So, for heaven’s sake read!

3. Write as much as possible
So, most people will say, “write every day!” but I’m a realist.  I know you can’t write every day.  But you should write as much as possible.  The idea behind the sentiment of “write every day!” is that it’s a priority for those people.  Maybe their number one priority.  For me, even though it’s not number one on my list, writing is still a priority for me, so I set goals.  Usually weekly goals, like I need to write 5,000 words this week to stay on track.  And, even if I’m not in the midst of writing a first draft, I still try to write, with stuff like this – blog posts, journal entries, musings etc.  Bottom line here: Whatever you write doesn’t have to be Earth shattering.  It just has to be words on a page.

2. Never stop learning
The writing and publishing world is going through a dramatic change right now.  If you are dumb enough to refuse to evolve with it then I’m done talking to you.  There are a tremendous amount of resources out there, and all you have to do is absorb them.  Some of my favorites are Stephen King’s On Writing and David Gaughran’s Let’s Get Visable.

1. Find what works for you
I used to be a seat of your pants writer.  My first book – The Blackout – was filled with plot holes, changed character names and major issues when I finished with the first draft.  So, for The Cure, I tried outlining.  The first draft went much better.  I had fewer changes, fewer mistakes, and in the end, produced a better book.  However, I was flexible with my outline.  When inspiration struck me, I went with it and ended up writing several chapters that weren’t included in my outline.  I feel like it was a good marriage of outlining and seat of your pants writing.  And it worked for me.  You might be a little more organized than that, and need to have a 17 page outline before you can even think about writing, or you might just need to start at it when the mood strikes.  That’s fine.  The important thing is to keep trying different things and do what works for you.

Author Bio

Let's see. What do you want to know about me? I love apocalypse movies like 2012 (which is probably why my first book is sort of apocalyptic), I love to read, I love my fur babies, my husband and my family.

I'm a graphic designer by trade, but hoping to some day be able to write full time.

Dan, my husband, and I are brand new parents and loving life!

As far as writing goes, The Blackout was my first published novel, but I've been writing for quite awhile. I won honorable mention in the 72nd Annual Writer's Digest Competition for a short story junior year of college, so that was...awhile ago anyway. Although I published a scholarly paper senior year, fiction writing has always been my passion. Can't wait to see what's next!

Exception by Patty Maximini

Synopsis:
When all hope for moving on from a life filled with pain and abuse was gone, Emily Watson closed herself off to the world, packed her bags, and moved across the country in search of a new life. When all hope for being loved and accepted for who he was instead of what he had was gone, Taylor Carter decided that trusting people outside of his family wasn’t really smart and would only lead to disappointment. With his world turned upside down, his life became about his work, and every new relationship was meaningless and superficial. He was safe and definitely content but never truly happy.

When all hope for staying awake during a long day was gone, Emily and Taylor found themselves at the same coffee cart. Little did they know then that the worst coffee they’d ever had would forever change their lives.

When hopeless people are blinded by an endless pain, when contentment and safety feel like the best options, and when love seems impossible, they may just find an exception.

Handling Negative Reviews
a guest post by Patty Maximini

As a writer, the best feeling in the world is reading a note from a reader, whether it be a personal message or a review, and seeing that they fell in love with your story and characters. It’s like eating ice-cream at Disney World, because every word of every story has a part of the writer’s heart, dreams and life in it, and knowing that they touched someone else is just wonderful. But, people don’t all have the same tastes and just like I haven’t loved every book I’ve ever read, I’ve always known that my book would not please everyone and therefore, negative reviews would come.

As much as I’d like to say that being prepared prevented me from being upset, but that’s just not true. Negative reviews are hard whether you’re prepared for them or not. However, one thing I’ve learned through this process is that they are also opportunities to learn what works and what doesn’t in my writing style, and ultimately, improve myself.

That’s how I deal with negative reviews. I choose to look at them with unemotional eyes and take the good from those words. So, in a way, whenever someone has something not so nice to say about my book, I thank them, because they are making me better for my next books.

Author Bio

Words have always been a passion of mine. I’ve always loved to read them, write them and learn them in other languages. Last year, I’ve decided to take that passion and turn it into a book, the result was Exception, my very first novel due this October.

Whenever I’m not sitting behind my computer, I’m either enjoying the company of my dear hubby, Alex, and our four four-legged babies or reading. I’m a firm believer in long hand written letters, love of any kind and good stories.

Excerpt:

“The holidays can be stressful for everyone, but especially if you’re pregnant or just had a baby. As you leave here tonight and deal with potentially difficult people or situations over the holidays, I want you to focus on acceptance. In other words, don’t try to control the uncontrollable, and don’t try to change a person who can’t be changed. People are who they are. With acceptance comes forgiveness, and with forgiveness comes inner peace, and we can all use some of that.”
Her words strike a nerve, and I can’t help speaking up. “But what if the problem isn’t that you can’t accept them, but they can’t accept you?” I ask.
“In what way?”
“It’s like, with my father, I’m the symbol for everything that has gone bad in his life. So instead of us getting closer, he pushes me further away. And now he’s getting married, and he’s about to start a new life with someone, and I’m afraid I’ll never get the chance to show him that I’m a real person, that I exist.”
The entire group is looking at me, staring actually. Kyle is the first to speak up. “But you aren’t giving him a chance to accept you. You haven’t even told him you’re pregnant and you’re five months into it. You push him away as much as he does you.”
“That’s not true.”
Audrey chimes in. “It is, Laurel. You’re nice and all, but you’ve told, what? Two people you’re pregnant, other than us and a couple of doctors. You drive an hour to a support group when there is probably one right near Milton. How much longer are you going to keep this secret? If you told your dad, maybe he’d see that you’re a real person. Real people screw up.”
“Wow.” I wrap my arms across my chest. I feel invaded.
